Hello everyone! I'm so excited to be doing my first tutorial for you!
For this weeks theme of Embroidery, I thought it would be fun to make a gift box with little note cards inside. I started off with a yellow prism gift box. I choose my colors I wanted to use to match. The pattern I choose to use I got from Darsie Bruno. You can find lots of fun patterns on her website,
A Sticher's Dream. First size your pattern to fit your project with your favorite photo editing program. Print out the pattern on regular copy paper. Lay your pattern over your heavy card stock. The side your finished project right side up. You start punching little holes in each place marked. (I use a needle that I glued a wooden bead to the end) When this is completed careful remove your pattern. Your ready to start embroidering. You'll want to use a long bead needle to embroidery with.
If your pattern calls for 1-3 stitch. That means you will be sewing between 3 holes. For example you'll bring the thread up at hole # 1, down in hole #3, up in hole #4, back down in hole #2, back up in hole #3 back down in hole #5, back up in hole #6, back down in hole Continue on this way through out your pattern.
Tape the beginning and end of your thread on the back. Do not tie knots.
The easiest way I finally understood this, is remember the old string art, how you wrapped the thread around the nails. It's on the same premise.
When you are done with all of the stitching, turn your work over and use a ball tool or a scooped tool to rub over the back to "heal" the holes.
I got this beautiful medallion from Fred She Said. You can get your free medallion here. Make sure you leave her some love for it! I used purple and yellow stickles on each layer. When the layers are dry use pop dots to assemble.
Tape Card stock to box and adhere medallion.
To finish off the top of the box I used stickles to highlight and give some sparkle!
For the note cards inside I cut the Basil card stock to 3 1/2" and ran it threw the Cuttlebug with the
Birds and Swill folder. I then cut white card stock to 3 1/4" and used the MS all around border punch. To finish off I used the center of the medallion to add a little touch of a flower on the note card.
